Garibous

The Garibous are children and young people, aged between 5 and 17 years old, who have been handed over by their parents to religious leaders known as "marabouts". Poorly dressed, dirty, and malnourished, the Garibous wake up daily at five in the morning to perform the prayer ritual and then go out to beg on the streets for their survival and to give a required amount to their leader, under the threat of punishment if not achieved. These boys face a daily struggle for survival, enduring long journeys of abuse and exploitation in subhuman conditions, without access to basic needs such as housing, food, and healthcare, becoming true slaves of modern times.

Every year, we care for around 19,000 Garibou boys, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the basic rights every child should have. At our center, we provide emergency assistance with food, leisure, haircuts, and health. At Cafi, they enjoy unique moments where they benefit from rights that every child has.
